Bake - Self initiated project
(Product, Name, Logo, Illustration, Packaging Design) Brief Home baking has been in family house holds for hundreds of years, but in more recent years there has been a clear decline in the number of us still doing it. The idea for this project was encourage more people to bake with out the worry of spending out on ingredients that might never be used again but to do so without loosing the fundamental benefits of baking. |
Solution
‘Bake’ a unique baking kit that provides people with the aditional ‘top-up’ ingredients needed to make a more exciting or advanced bake. The design of this project is focused arround a slice of cake and the fact that they proved a taster for new bakes. |

Inside the box
The interior of the box will follow a simple stacking structure within the packaging. As you unbox the kit, the ingredients are stacked in layers.
The boxes would be colour coded in accordance to the ingredient it contains.
The first thing you will see when you open the box is a ingredients card, containing a list of all the additional ingredients needed to make the cake that are not included in the kit. It lists the ingredients and amounts included in the kit so that the user could bake the recipe again after useing the kit. The back of the card explains how the kit works and provides infomation about the Bake App and where to download it.
Underneath that are all the stacked ingredient boxes, which are all numbered according to order of use and have the recipe steps written on the top of each of them, clearly guiding the user through the recipe.

Tutorial App
In addition to the baking kit, an App to support the kit would be useful. As well as proving a useful platform to help further the baking skills of the customer, the App would include tutorial videos of how to make the cakes provided in the kits.

Connections to Mind
When I started this project my main aim was to create a product that would encourage people to try new bakes whilst reducing waste. However through research I became aware of the many mental heath benefits of baking, this lead to the conscious decision not to include the basic cake ingredients such as flour and caster sugar in order to leave something for the baker to weigh out, as the simple act of being in control and weighing out ingredients was a big contributor to helping improve mental wellbeing. Bake will partner with Mind, a Uk based Mental Health Charity, and work with them to ensure anyone suffering from mental health gets the support that they need. One way that Bake will support Mind is by donating 10% of their profits. |
